The Behavioral Research Laboratory of ESSEC Business School is bound by the ESSEC Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research..
ESSEC's research-ethics responsibilities include the proper safeguarding of potentially sensitive data collected during an experiment. ESSEC Behavioral Research Lab takes the following steps to meet its confidentiality requirements:
- All data collected during recruitment is stored on a server that is accessible only to ESSEC Behavioral Research staff. These data are used only for the purpose of recruiting subjects to participate in Datalab experiments.
- All personally-identifying data collected during an experiment (e.g., your name) is processed according to the approved ethics document of the respective study. Usually, any personal information is replaced with a code number, and the list linking code numbers to personally-identifying data is kept separate from the experimental data.
- All human-subjects forms containing personally-identifying information (e.g., informed consent) are stored in secure locations.
As a human-subject participant at ESSEC Behavioral Research Lab, it is your right to lodge a complaint if you believe that sensitive information about you collected during an experiment has not actually been kept confidential. Such complaints can be delivered to the Center of Research, ESSEC Business School.

- Personal data relating to you is subject to automated processing in accordance with European Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of 27 April 2016 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data, and the French Data Protection Act No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978 (« Loi Informatique et Libertés »).
- The controller is the Managing Director of Essec Business School (D G D P @ e s s e c . e d u).
- For any question relating to this processing, you may send an e-mail to Essec Business School’s Data Protection Officer (D P D @ e s s e c . e d u).
- This data is intended for the following processing activities : recruitment of candidates for research studies.
- The data is your identity, sex, language level, consent.
- The absence of this data has the following consequences : no enrollment in the research studies program.
- The data is not used for automated decision making or profiling.
- The data is transfered to the following recipients: ESSEC’s Research Center staff and researchers.
- This data will not be transferred to a third country.
- The data will be stored for a maximum 3 years after last activity.
- You are granted by the Law the right to request access to your personal data, its rectification, its deletion, a limitation of processing, the right to oppose processing,[the right to withdraw your consent[if it has been collected to allow processing] and the right to data portability. You also have the right to inform us of your wishes regarding the fate of your post-mortem data. You may exercise these rights by sending an e-mail to the Essec Business School’s Data Protection Officer (D P D @ e s s e c . e d u).
- If you believe that your rights on your data are not respected, you also have the right to file a complaint with the French supervisory authority (« Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés » (CNIL)).
